Paper Summary:

The paper is a reflection paper about the body and social identity. The assignment looked at the concept of social selves and shows how social selves are sub parts of our personal identities that are created by our social interactions.

From the Paper:

"The body is often thought of in biological terms. However, the body can also be through of in social terms. For example, when defining gender in "Cultural Anthropology" Emily Schultz and Robert Lavenda state, "The cultural construction of beliefs and behaviours considered appropriate for each sex"(Schultz and Lavenda 1995: 251). This clearly indicates that bodies and the different aspects of the body can be seen as socially constructed. The fact that concepts of the body are socially constructed means that a large part of our personal identities are determined by our bodies."
