Paper Summary:
The paper describes the characteristics of the typical Red Cross member and discusses the goals of the American Red Cross. The paper explains how the American Red Cross can be compared to a number of major drug companies, such as Johnson & Johnson, and then considers their imperfect reputation. The paper posits that they could profit greatly by a tighter control of their reputation and then suggests ways the organization could improve.
From the Paper:
"The Red Cross runs local blood drives at schools and churches that make their presence known to communities without being their in response to disasters. People also perceive the Red Cross as being ever-present because they are almost always associated with the disaster relief of major crises that we see on the news. People see the Red Cross as a historical organization that had a major hand in helping soldiers in overseas wars, so part of public perception might be that they are heavily involved in their humanitarian effort for military troupes and military families. Through my research and analysis I have come to agree with the public perception of the American Red Cross."
