This paper presents an introduction to the history and uses of the TCP/IP protocol It also looks at the OSI Model of networking, IP addresses broken down (network / host bits), subnetting, supernetting and DHCP and DNS servers.
From the Paper:
"Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the most commonly used protocol suite in the networking arena. Originally developed by the Department of Defense as a research project to connect several networks together, it became the preferred protocol suite following being adopted by UNIX for its protocol. The IP is responsible for sending data packets, while TCP is responsible for verifying accurate delivery of the data. Together, TCP/IP provides the framework for the internet."
