A discussion of the emotional reactions of women, particularly teenagers, following abortion.
1,874 words (approx. 7.5 pages) | 5 sources | MLA | 2008

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses a woman's feelings of distress and fear that often accompany undergoing an abortion. It discusses recent studies in psychology on women's reactions to an abortion and looks at whether women suffer any long-term psychological trauma following abortion. The paper specifically focuses on the emotional reactions of teenagers who undergo abortion.

From the Paper:

"Abortion, even if legally approved, is a social issue that raises many ethical problems and involves personal moral considerations. "How do I feel about it" becomes a pertinent question for a women deciding on abortions. A woman may consider abortion to be the best alternative to solve her current predicament, an unplanned pregnancy. Once her decision is made, she will start to think as positively as possible about the necessary procedure involved as apart of her coping behavior in the situation. Women in the pre-abortion situation share more positive beliefs about having an abortion than non-pregnant women do, whether or not the latter think that they themselves would never have an abortion. Despite their relatively positive beliefs, most research shows that women in the pre-abortion period will experience at least some distress."
