Sociology
An analysis of the way that human societies function in order to promote self preservation.
1,661 words (approx. 6.6 pages) | 3 sources | MLA | 2007 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses society, particularly the social conflict theory, triangular trade and racism and the idea that men are interested in pursuing the path that will ensure their own success and self preservation. It connects all of these concepts in order to suggest that human societies promote the idea that mankind often functions in a manner that promotes the achievement of individual goals and self preservation, often at the expense of others.

From the Paper:

"The readings on human societies accomplished thus far and discussions in class have served to promote the idea that mankind often functions in a manner that promotes the achievement of individual goals and self preservation, often at the expense of others. Slavery for example arose out of non minority populations desires to achieve wealth and obtain power over goods and commodities as a form of self preservation. It had nothing to do with preserving the best interests of those providing the labor and support for capitalist's money ventures. People came to associate slaves with production and commodities, not with human life or beings. Interestingly it is likely that within the slave population the desire to preserve ones autonomy and self was also very high. This goal however for many was likely not attainable."
