↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the history and role of social workers within society. It describes their original tactics, designated as the three R's - research, reform and residence; and looks at specific social workers who have been honored for their efforts. The paper then looks at how the social work field evolved over time and how this led to a change in the ethical considerations facing this community position. Lastly, the paper discusses the writer's role as a social worker.

From the Paper:

"Historically, it has been stated that children who have been designated "at-risk" have been categorized as experiencing the following conditions: poor parenting skills as well as physical abuse, emotional abuse, and in many instances, sexual abuse. These situations cause feelings of worthlessness, confusion, frustration, sadness, and extreme anger. Not only do these children suffer with these issues, but many times, their parents are products of similar situations. These children have the greatest need for family and community support. Parents need to be more involved and supportive of positive responsibility for the development and well being of their children. All segments of society need to work together with families as they prepare their children to go out into this world."
