This paper explains that the global industry of manufacturing and tourism, especially sex tourism, demonstrates the exploitation of the poorer nations of the world by the industrialized nations of the western and northern hemispheres. The paper provides examples of this type of race and gender abuse in Antiqua, Jamaica, Haiti and South Korea. As an example, the paper relates the story presented in the film "Heading South", which portrays three single women tourists, agents of the snobbery and racism from the northern hemisphere, basking in the delights of their paradisiacal vacation somewhat oblivious to the corrupting dictatorship of Haiti.
From the Paper:
"The tropical tourist destination of Haiti is known as a destination that caters to such clientele willing to exploit the poverty of such countries in the southern hemisphere. Also, the way the young women vie for Legba demonstrates how the northern hemisphere's sociological illusions of grandeur and ownership that once operated out of colonialism is now operating in the business of tourism. This type of exploitation is especially evident by the fact that Ellen is willing to take advantage of Legba who is a mere eighteen years of age."
