The paper discusses rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT) that seeks to analyze the role of our emotions in interpreting key events. The paper explains that REBT teaches clients that psychological well-being lies not in experiencing good or bad events, but in whether we perceive those events to be positive or negative. The paper relates that REBT therapists believe that without these self-defeating habits and beliefs, their clients will be able to achieve more of the primary goal, which is happiness.
From the Paper:
"Rational-Emotive-Therapy is a very radical form of therapy, which believes in challenging the basic beliefs of human beings, through disputing these beliefs, REBT therapists believe that they will bring their clients to a better understanding of themselves and their neurosis.
REBT considers that without these self-defeating habits and beliefs, their clients will be able to achieve more of the primary goal, happiness. "Realistic thinking leads to realistic emotions" (rebt.cc)."
