From the Paper:

"An oligopolistic market is very similar to the monopolistic market in that there very little competition in regards to the particular product, which is homogenous, but in the oligopoly the product is controlled by a small group of companies as opposed to one in the monopoly. is a relative limitation upon competition, however in the oligopoly there is a small group of companies in control as opposed to one. An example of an oligopolistic market would in the modern day clearly be that of the oil industry. There are a small number of suppliers for a great majority of the product consumed, and thus these suppliers are able to collude together and control the price. The elasticity of demand is manipulated by controlling the supply, enabling for an increased control over prices. In this particular situation economic profits are not an issue, as the presence and ownership of natural resources dictates that they be harvested and sold, with the capital devoted to such endeavors being no more profitable in any other function."
