"Peer pressure is the influence of others one's own age or in one's social sphere that causes one to conform to their expectations. For example, a teen who does not want to begin smoking may have friends that already smoke. These friends can exert influence on the teen both directly and indirectly in an attempt to get the teen to join in. Indirect influence can be such things as making smoking look cool and direct influence can be open urgings such as; "Why don't you..."
