"The artifact to be examined is the testimony of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) before the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the U.S. Senate on September 19, 1985. The issue that occasioned these hearings was the question of whether the content of records should be censored, or at least whether warning labels as to sexual or violent content should be placed on recorded material as a way of warning parents and perhaps as a way of isolating certain material so minors could not purchase it. The PMRC managed to accomplish one of its goals by getting record companies to label recordings containing material that might be considered inappropriate for children. The testimony before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation was part of the strategy of the group to accomplish this goal, and the rhetoric used by the group was..."
