"Criminal justice agencies are very similar to civilian business companies in terms of the organizational elements needed in order to be successful. What makes a criminal justice agency different than a civilian business is that if the organizational elements within the agency fail, employees of the agency or members of the public can be hurt or even killed. Therefore, it is essential that certain elements such as the proper motivation, the use of empowerment, attempting to control the internal and external environmental factors, and maintaining good leadership are vital in a criminal justice leadership. Failure to do so in a business would mean that the business would just close. Failure to do so in a criminal justice agency could mean the loss of life."
