Decisions in the market economy are influenced by the forces of supply and demand and competition. Mankiw's 10 principles of economics offer an outline of how wages are determined in a market economy. The two key principles which apply to the labor market for nurses are "People Face Tradeoffs" and "Governments Can Sometimes Improve Market Outcomes" (Mankiw, 2004)."
