"As an outcome of low unemployment and poverty, Native Americans also suffer from poor access to healthcare which results in poor health. Like many other segments of the population, many Native Americans cannot afford health insurance. According to According to an article published by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, In spite of the formation of an "independent public health system and more than $3 billion in funds appropriated by Congress each year to deliver health care services for Native Americans, a wide range of public health status indicators demonstrate that Native Americans continue to suffer disproportionately from a variety of illnesses and diseases."
