"Patience is a key component of being an effective human services worker. Through the years with working with urban youth I have experienced first hand how patience is a virtue. Youth come with a variety of challenges, problems, family histories, and biological and social influences that all require patience in order to help them to grow and change into the adult that they have the potential of becoming. Fortunately patience is one of my strengths as a developing human service worker. I recognize the many obstacles that youth need to overcome and how their social spheres influence them. However, instead of becoming impatient with these often slow to change youth, I instead encourage and celebrate small changes and milestones with them to foster further growth."
