From the Paper:

"Some rituals in organizations serve as barriers to new members of the organization, maintaining the status quo, or at least maintaining power in the hands of those who currently possess it. For example, although women have entered the workforce in large numbers in the United States, there is little after-hours socializing which consists of men and women from work getting together. Men continue to go out with men after work, and women go out with women (typically)."
