Molar Pregnancy
A brief paper on molar pregnancies.
752 words (approx. 3 pages) | 2 sources | MLA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper explains what a molar pregnancy is, who it affects and who is most at risk. The paper also looks at the role of the nurse in helping to prevent the problem and discusses how the nurse can best educate her patient about this problem.

From the Paper:

"Molar pregnancies are the result of a genetic abnormality during the fertilization stage. Basically, it's a fertilization problem. Rather than the egg developing into a viable pregnancy, the placenta develops into irregular fast growing tissue. It is a mass known a hydatidiform mole, which develops within the uterus. The biggest concern about this is that the abnormal tissue can turn into cancer. A molar pregnancy is a noncancerous (benign) tumor that develops in the uterus. With a molar pregnancy, a woman may miss a period and have a positive Pregnancy test. This is because the placenta secretes human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)."
