This paper discusses the dangers of abusing marijuana and the difficulties of rehabilitation. The paper looks at some of the reasons why people start using marijuana, the immediate and lasting physical side effects of marijuana abuse, the different stages of addiction, and the visible signs of marijuana addiction. In addition, the paper describes rehabilitation methods and rehabilitation goals for the marijuana addict, as well as what the patient must do in order to be successful at rehabilitation. The paper concludes that, regardless of many people's assumptions that marijuana is merely a harmless recreational drug, it is a proven addictive substance that should be treated with sincere caution.

"The life of a marijuana abuser becomes a constant struggle to continue obtaining the feeling of euphoria that the drug entails. According to writer Jerry Cohen, "The world of marijuana is a state within a state, a culture within a culture, and it is impossible to estimate its population." Cohen's statement proves true as the majority of the marijuana using population remains hidden. Marijuana users range from adolescents to the elderly and from the famous to the unknown. Icons such as Paul McCartney, Whitney Houston, and Prince Henry have been cited for possession of marijuana."
