1,229 words (approx. 4.9 pages) | 3 sources | APA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper describes and discusses the five steps necessary to correct performance deficiency in employees and goes on to discuss different leadership styles. The author also notes different skills necessary to become a good leader and emphasizes the importance of good communication skills.

Outline:
Five Steps to Correct Performance Deficiency
Five Types of Leadership Power
Technical, Interpersonal, and Conceptual Skills

From the Paper:

"The first step is requesting an agreement with the employee that there needs to be a change. The deficiency problem does exist, but what is important is to get the employee to recognize and agree that there is a problem. An important aspect to this agreement is to make sure that the deficiency problems are perceived as to having similar components. Sometimes when employees are put under pressure to recognize that there is deficiency in performance, they will agree with the manager that there is a problem when they don't really understand it. Thus, when both the manager and the employee can agree about the specific components of the deficiency, it demonstrates that the problem is understood. Understanding the problem will help both the manager and the employee build a greater productivity agreement that recognizes that the common challenges need to be met in order to accomplish certain tasks."
