Paper Summary:

The paper discusses how, although leading is not the primary aspect of management, it is a vital component. The paper explains that through leadership, managers will be able to provide guidance, ensure motivation and create favorable circumstances for their employees. The paper also shows how leadership is the component of management that utilizes a manager's interpersonal skills to get the most out of an organization's human resources.

"According to Jones and George (2007), managers "plan, organize, lead, and control human and other resources to achieve organizational goals efficiently and effectively" (p. 5). Planning involves setting goals for a team or department that are in line with the organization's goals and charting appropriate courses of action to reach these goals. In order to accomplish tasks efficiently, the manager must organize people and resources in a way that helps them work together. Once the project is underway, the manager will control the group or individual effort by monitoring their progress and achievement. To plan, organize, and control successfully, a manager must be able to lead as well. Although leading is not the primary aspect of management, it is a vital component."
