"Almost daily one can turn on the news in America or Iraq and receive coverage of the disagreement between the two nations. Currently it has escalated to include the threat of war but there have been tensions between the nations for many years(Gulf, 2001).

While today's threat of war is clearly in the forefront of the issue, there have been tensions and problems for more than a decade. The current trouble is actually founded in problems that began in 1991 when Iraq forces invaded Kuwait and refused to leave. The United States and its allies began a campaign to drive the troops from Kuwait. The campaign was tremendously successful, and was completed in very short order. From that day forward the people of Iraq have resented the United States and have lashed out against any hint of power or control by the US or its allies over Iraq. The United States has maintained its insistence that Iraq comply with the agreement it made in the 1991 war to allow inspection of its country for weapons(Gulf, 2001)."
