Internet Profiling and Privacy
A look at privacy concerns in relation to the Internet.
2,765 words (approx. 11.1 pages) | 11 sources | MLA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper examines the issue of privacy on the Internet and discusses how much information should be revealed and asked for and what should remain confidential. The paper also looks at the practice of profiling and how it can lead to serious ethical and security concerns.

From the Paper:

"Internet may not be very new but privacy on the internet is certainly a relatively new ethical and security concern. How much should be revealed, how much information should be asked for and what needs to be concealed and what is confidential are some important questions that arise in this connection.
"Privacy and related concerns about gathering and use of personal information definitely predate the Internet but the emergence of newer technologies and applications, such as the World Wide Web, and their massive use throughout the industrialized world have further aggravated the situation and intensified the concerns connected with profiling and privacy.
"Reasons for this concern can be manifold. Some have arisen due to Internet structure and the very basic format it uses. For instance, the Internet requires personal information for the most basic services as well and this information can be shared widely without user's consent or knowledge."
