Immigration's Effect on America
A look at the pros and cons of immigration to the United States.
1,919 words (approx. 7.7 pages) | 6 sources | APA | 2008

Paper Summary:

The paper reveals that the majority of polled Americans want less immigration and more restrictions on immigrants. The paper explains their arguments of immigration effects on crime rates, local taxes and welfare. The paper then discusses how the government wants immigration for reasons involving the economy and foreign relations and this explains why they have designed programs to actually increase the flow of immigrants.

From the Paper:

"This paper is intended to explain why immigration is so controversially looked upon as a major positive or negative factor affecting the present and future prosperity of America. This nation has been described with such phrases as "melting pot" and "nation of immigrants." "Since 1980, an average of 570,000 people a year have come to these shores, not including the approximately 3 million illegal aliens who are in the country" (Perry, 2003, p.251). America draws many immigrants based on our laws enforcing human rights and freedom. Various religions, cultures, and ethnic groups are accepted in America."
