Green Logistics and Transportation

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the fact that the transport sector is one of the major contributors to the environmental problems like green house gases and even acid rain. The paper then looks at the concept of green logistics. It discusses the importance of finding alternatative fuel that is cost efficient and also less polluting and the new developments that could be adopted in fueling vehicles.

"The laws have become stringent and therefore compliance with emission rules have now become mandatory. The rule for the corporate fuel consumption economy requires that vehicles are manufactured to standards set for the fuel economy, gas mileage of the Department of Transportation -- DOT. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration -- NHTSA levies penalties for non compliance. Similarly there is the proposal to tax those who manufacture cars and vehicles that do not fall into the category of permitted fuel consumption range. While this may affect manufacturers more the truck owners and potential buyers of trucks have to be aware of these standards and check if the vehicle that is proposed to be bought falls within the system requirements.
