Globalization and Offshoring
A look at how globalization has created a competitive challenge for human resource professionals.
1,016 words (approx. 4.1 pages) | 4 sources | APA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper examines how, together with all the advantages of globalization, comes the threat to the well-being of American employees. It discusses how offshoring has become of the biggest negative outcomes of globalization and how the alarm is sounded as the number of American jobs that are up for grabs in the global market increases. It also looks at how organizations throughout the world are reevaluating the ways they conduct their business and developing new strategies to retain their competitive advantage in the modern marketplace.

From the Paper:

"Indeed, offshoring has been a hot issue discussed in the news media, a subject matter of political debate and a part of social lexicon for quite some time now. Reporters describe the events; politicians draft regulations; workers set up picket lines, while experts try to explain the happening. Much has been said and written about current trends and the future of offshoring, about what it means and what potential economic effects it might have on the U.S. economy and the world. In her 2005 article "The Next Wave Of Offshoring," Robyn Meredith, who is a correspondent for the Forbes magazine based in Hong Kong, wrote, "Over the next decade, offshoring will knock millions of white-collar Americans and Europeans out of work, blowing a hole in the middle class from Los Angeles to London, from Boston to Berlin, from Toledo to Tokyo, from Austin to Amsterdam."
