"Many people are biased against women managers because they feel women are not capable of being strong and aggressive leaders; in fact, the trait of aggression when one discusses a "leader" is considered a desirable characteristic if applied to a male, but not when applied to a female candidate (Nelson, 2002). It is important old stereotypes about how women "should" act and how men do act are eliminated so women are more equally represented at all levels of the human chain in organizations.
"Women also face what many have called in the past a "glass ceiling" when it comes to promotions and their salaries. This means women are not always capable of making the same rate or payment as male peers working in the same field with the same qualifications; it also refers to the inability of women in some fields to be eligible for promotion because of gender bias rather than expertise or skill set. Why is inequality present in a society that promotes justice and freedom for all? The Equal Employment Opportunity Council or EEOC states that gender discrimination is forbidden in the workplace and in an academic work environment. Despite this there are ongoing claims that women are the subject of much sexual harassment and discrimination or prejudiced beliefs (Nelson, 12). Some examples of the environments where women are more likely to feel harassed despite legislation passed to curb this include in food and beverage, hospitality and tourism and law (Nelson, 2002)."
