"Numerous studies and analyses of the subject of intergenerational structural changes in the family have found that the traditional family of even a few decades ago has already changed dramatically and significantly. The dissolution of the nuclear family into less rigid, one-parent households has even been attributed as a factor in rising inequality and poverty. In fact, the number of children in one-parent households jumped from 15% to 28% between 1970 and 1991, a significant amount (Lerman 119)."
