From the Paper:
"Although America's official war on terrorism was initiated in the wake of the 2001 terrorist attacks, the growing presence of this insidious type of warfare had begun approximately forty years earlier, due to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. Throughout the latter part of the 20th century, the Western world witnessed an increase in terrorist attacks as Muslim's began targeting both the military and civilians, with the intention of instigating Jihad. Embassies found themselves under siege; suicide bombers installed themselves in public places, detonating the explosives that were strapped to their bodies, and killing countless innocent victims; civilians were taken hostage and often killed, and planes were hijacked."
