In this article, the writer maintains that voting is essential to democracy, as it represents the expression of the will of the people through a majority voting process whose results all participating citizens implicitly agree to abide by. The writer looks at the history of voting in the US and discusses that the original basis for voting had religious undertones, whereby Christian values were intended to be integrated and manifested in this new government and new nation that was being formed in the new frontier that was The New World. From the Paper:
"Constitutionality represented a new form of power. We call this power Democracy, and in its ideal form it lays in the hands of the citizens. That is why voting is so essential to Democracy, as it represents the expression of the will of the people through a majority voting process whose results all participating citizens implicitly agree to abide by. The new relationship of the people to govern defined by voting evolved into a civil process in which more and more citizens were recognized and incorporated into the process, as those citizens excluded questioned the Constitutionality of its practice."
