From the Paper:

"Although many praise the ethics that the company enforces, some analysts have complained about the company's generosity. The article explains that some Wall Street Analysts have argued shareholders suffer as a result of the company's generosity to employees. However, the CEO of Costco Jim Senegal asserts that treating employees with dignity and respect is not counterproductive, it is simply good business. Senegal discards Wall Street's assertions that success can only come if workers are treated poorly or if the company increases prices. In another article Senegal also explains that treating workers with respect serves as a form of advertising (Goldberg & Ritter, 2006). He explains that his workers have become like ambassadors for the company (Goldberg & Ritter, 2006). Senegal also asserts that "Good wages and benefits are why Costco has extremely low rates of turnover and theft by employees, he said. And Costco's customers, who are more affluent than other warehouse store shoppers, stay loyal because they like that low prices do not come at the workers expense (Greenhouse, 2005).""
