From the Paper:

"Issues related to the awareness of environment, morality, and ethics are of relatively recent interest in the business world. Particularly in the mining industry and other fields of a similar nature, this heightened level of understanding and compassion for recognizing damage that is done to the environment, employees, and customers is becoming more and more important to companies. Federal mandates in many countries, the United States included, have placed regulations and standards on what is and is not acceptable with regard to treatment of workers, manufactured goods, and environmental damage."
