Colloidal Silver: The Wave of the Future

# 119917
A discussion on the benefits of colloidal silver, known as the natural antibiotic alternative.
1,551 words (approx. 6.2 pages) | 4 sources | MLA | 2010 | United States

Paper Summary:

The paper explains the advantages of colloidal silver over antibiotics and identifies four products on the market that are being called colloidal silver. The paper also describes how people can make their own colloidal silver at home. The paper then discusses why, with all these advantages, colloidal silver is not often used, and explains that the reason for this is strictly political. The paper argues that since no pharmaceutical company can control or monopolize ownership of colloidal silver since it is easily made at home and the price of production is so low, no one will fund FDA testing of this "new drug".

From the Paper:

"Recently, I came upon a substance called colloidal silver. I was amazed at the information I found and decided that I needed to research a little more. It is known as the antibiotic of the future and has some extraordinary results. First, silver has always been known to be on of the most universal antibiotic substances. It has been used as an antibiotic for years, yet it lost its flare with the introduction of other antibiotics such as penicillin and amoxicillin. Dr. Margraf, a doctor who was in search of an antiseptic for burn victims, stated, "silver is the best all around germ-fighter we have" (Lindemann 2). In his search for a substance that was strong enough, yet safe enough to use over large areas of the body, he tested a diluted silver nitrate. He found good results, but it hardly was the answer. It disturbed the balance of body salts, was thick and cumbersome to use, and stained everything it touched. He needed to find a different form of silver to receive similar good results, without the side effects. After a little more research he found that silver, in the colloid form, was non-toxic and had the same tremendous results. It spurred more testing and an amazing controversy into what is being called the natural antibiotic alternative."
