The paper discusses how immigrant children living in the United States often face multiple challenges in schools and within their communities. "Children who are immigrants face multiple barriers and greater difficulties than their non-immigrant peers. Magnuson & Waldfogel (2005) explore the links between children's early childcare and education experiences and ethnic gaps among children. The results of their study suggest that "high quality model early childhood programs can enhance school readiness" for immigrant children (Magnuson & Waldfogel, 2005: 169) Head Start may also offer some benefits (Magnuson & Waldfogel, 2005). Both of these programs may be beneficial for assisting immigrant children who, according to the researchers, face multiple difficulties and barriers that include low socio-economic status, language acquisition barriers and low self-confidence in the classroom (Magnuson & Waldfogel, 2005)."
