↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses how early childhood years of development and in particular the preschool years, are generally characterized by extreme physical and psychological changes. The paper examines the physical and motor development of children in their early developmental years. The paper points out some of the essential growth and development patterns in younger children. The paper concludes that while physical attributes and aspects such as motor skills may be discussed in isolation, it should be remembered that growth and development are intimately linked to and interact with social, psychological and evolutionary factors.

Outline:
Introduction
Physical and Motor Development In the Early Developmental Years

From the Paper:

"Another significant factor that should be noted at the outset is that heredity and environmental factors both play a significant and influential role in the physical development of the child. This can be seen in various abnormal growth patterns where the influence of environmental factors can be discerned. For example, the 'failure to thrive syndrome' is a condition where pituitary gland functions abnormally due to stress, which may be a result of abuse or neglect in the early years of development. Therefore, the influence of psychological as well as environmental factors should continually be borne in mind in an assessment of physical growth and development in the child."
