Breast Cancer: Current and Future Issues
A look at the present research on breast cancer and how it may affect women in the future.
999 words (approx. 4 pages) | 4 sources | APA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the impact of breast cancer and research on the various aspects of breast cancer on millions of women, based on a 2004 report by the National Cancer Institute. The writer describes how, over the last decade, breast cancer research has reached a number of important goals toward helping to eradicate the disease. Future research related to breast cancer is also discussed, such as the development of new drugs and procedures related to surgical practice. The paper concludes that breast cancer and research today depends on two elements: the promotion of breast cancer awareness, particularly among social groups that live in poverty, and funds for research at all levels.

From the Paper:

"The historical significance of breast cancer has much to do with the fact that this illness has disrupted the lives of women for centuries, but it was not until the early years of the 20th century that scientists and researchers began to study this illness with great scrutiny. In 1952, the American Cancer Society created the Reach to Recovery program, made up of professional women who paid visits to hospitals and clinics in an attempt to offer not only support but also information on breast cancer awareness."
