An examination of the issues between black and women's rights.
Written in 2009; 774 words; 8 sources; MLA; $ 27.95
Paper Summary:
This paper briefly looks at how the conflicts between black and women's rights have been significant factors in the story of the civil rights movement, although women were some of the most important activists in that movement. It looks at how the struggle between men and women of color is an important factor in issues of poverty, employment, and family life.
From the Paper:
"The Color Purple protest may have been connected with the previously described sexual nature of Black man sexuality as described above, but it may also be to do with the nature of feminism, which is essentially concerned with Gender, and racial activism is chiefly concerned with the issues of race in society; both of these communities look for the black women's issues to be fixed by achievement of their own interests, not through total equality. In addition, even those, such as Ngwainmbi, who comment upon the black/woman divide, also consider 'middle class' status to be essential to improving black women's status: thereby ignoring class issues.
