Bipolar Disorder
A brief overview of bipolar disorder.
805 words (approx. 3.2 pages) | 6 sources | APA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses how an individual diagnosed with bipolar disorder experiences bouts of feelings of euphoria as well as feelings of depression. The paper also relates that individuals with bipolar disorder may experience long stints of "normal" behavior or moods, allowing the individual to hold a job and experience a healthy family life. A brief look at the diagnosis of bipolar disorder as well as its treatment with medication and psychotherapy is also provided.

From the Paper:

"An individual suffering from bipolar disorder in the manic stage may experience feelings of euphoria, excessive talkativeness, inflated self-esteem, a less need for sleep, the desire to behave impulsively, and in the cases of bipolar disorder with psychosis hallucinations and delusions (WebMD, 2005-2008). Some may think that this happiness or high is a good thing. Too much of a good thing is never really good. When an individual is in the manic stage of bipolar disorder their logic is impaired. They may feel the need to fulfill these impulses in unhealthy manners such as engaging in promiscuous sexual encounters, partaking in risky business ventures, or taking physical risks that a balanced individual may have second thoughts on."
