2,503 words (approx. 10 pages) | 5 sources | APA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper looks into the latest revision of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) introduced in the USA to ensure that no child is left behind in the educational system. The author also explains that some political figures believe the 'No Child Left Behind' program doesn't work because minority groups often lack resources to learn on an even level with other students.

From the Paper:

"In today's modern society, schools are sometimes forced to leave some children behind. "NCLB was signed into law January 8, 2002. It is the latest revision of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and is regarded as the most significant federal education policy initiative in a generation. The overall purpose of the law is to ensure that each child in America is able to meet the high learning standards of the state where he or she lives. The specific goals of the law, as spelled out in the Federal Register issued on March 6, 2002" (No child left behind). However, for some students, the noble idea of not leaving a child behind has not yet been taken seriously with the general public and a lot of educational systems which includes special education. Furthermore, the progressions of credentials, assessment, categorization, placement, and instruction have truly meant to put down their cultural and linguistic differences. With that, it is apparent that school systems overlook multiculturalism and diversity especially in educational intervention, where the minority students are placed, which means children are left behind (Obiakor 2000)."
