From the Paper:

"Research contends that 80 percent of depressed individuals will recover with correctly diagnosed and appropriately treated. Some depressed individuals, however, do not seek help on their own because they believe things are hopeless; that nothing can help. Some clinically depressed individuals erroneously think they can just "pull themselves up by their bootstraps."
"When family and friends encourage someone who is depressed to reach out for help when they are can't simply "snap out" of sad or depressed moods, and/or when their emotional problems interfere with their relationships, work and/or other areas, this may help a depressed person to take a step toward recovery."
