Paper Summary:
The paper offers a look at the research available on college drinking and goes on to propose a study with the hypothesis that as college drinking rises, grades deteriorate. The paper's study aims to show the relationship between these two variables through the correlation of data on alcohol consumption with data on scholastic achievement. The methodology to be used in this study is also described.
"Although some research has been used to define the mechanisms that take place during the college experience, scientific resources have only been dedicated to analyzing rationale that leads to the drinking in the first place. However, these results have not shown the damage done by the behavioral patterns, and have left a significant gap that needs to be explored to provide scientific rigor to prevention and remedy strategies. One such study addresses the nature of peer relationships and what causality they have on college drinking. Here, researchers not only attempted to depict what they surmised as the causes of this behavior, but reported that similar research has yielded questionable results."
