From the Paper:

"Research conducted in the beginning of the 1970s decade revealed something very interesting. What was revealed was the "children were learning about literacy from their home environment before they came to school and that parents played an enormous part in supporting their children's literacy development." (Kelly et al eds, 1995) The project's name was the "Haringey Project" (Tizard et al, 1982; as cited by Kelly, 1995 p.27) The study of Hawes & Plourde (nd) was conducted for the purpose of making a determination of the relationship between reading achievement and parental involvement for sixth grade middle school students. Many studies have been conducted in relation to the impact of parental involvement on the success of students in school, and even in the area of achievement in reading."
