3,821 words (approx. 15.3 pages) | 9 sources | APA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper conducts a literature review to identify the reasons why some support police higher education while others discount the need to have college-educated police. The paper proposes a study that aims to determine if more officers with higher levels of education are being promoted than those with lesser educational levels. The paper outlines the theoretical framework, hypotheses and design of the study.

From the Paper:

"Law enforcement officers are an influential population as they are seen as protectors, role models and are held to a higher standard. The police are looked upon to serve, protect, assist, solve crime, settle disputes, solve problems, and are empowered to make decisions to take a life or take away one's freedom. It would appear that a reasonable person would rather want their local law enforcement officer to have a higher education rather than a "C" average high school graduate."
