Violence in U.S. Correctional Facilities

Whatever the reasons, a free and equal society must mete out this punishment fairly, justly, and humanely. A democratic society must be aware that prisoners are especially vulnerable to all sorts of abuses, as they are stripped almost completely of their rights, and are at the mercy of the state and its prison authorities."
