Paper Summary:

This paper describes the methods of the media during the Vietnam War that were credited with having changed the course of the war and media coverage as a whole. The paper explains how never before or since has the press had such free reign within a live combat zone involving American forces, and discusses how their involvement changed the public's perception of the war in Vietnam. The author also describes the effects this war had on government policies of media coverage in wartime.

From the Paper:

"Widely referred to as "the living room war," the Vietnam War was the first conflict in American history to be fought in the homes of the American people. Graphic images of burning children and American flag-draped caskets saturated television screens nationwide, and newspaper reports described equally horrifying scenes. The aggressive reporting of a new breed of U.S. journalists has since been viewed by many in the military as responsible for undermining the war effort, while others call it the turning point in American war coverage. Regardless, improved technology, relaxed media regulations, and the undivided attention of the American people made journalists the recorders of the most debated war in history."
