Paper Summary:

The purpose of this study is to show that there are many reasons why nurses leave their profession, but that financial reasons often rank very high on their list of concerns. Additionally, the study shows how the underfunding of hospitals can cause harm to the community as well as the staff. Finally, the study shows the reasons for the lack of funding and how the nursing shortage and the lack of funding are tied together in many ways, but still are very different entities.

"The education of nurses is still conducted at many schools, but there are problems with this. Even though a textbook education is important, and much of what these nurses learn is very valuable, many of them are missing out on the other part of their education the practical part that they would have learned from the well-established nurses on the job. This is education as well, and just because it does not come from a textbook in a classroom, its importance to the nursing profession should not be overlooked. There are many things that make up an education, and in the helping professions such as nursing, much of this information is a hands-on type of learning that cannot be obtained anywhere but on the job."
