Given the importance of a child's social context, it is not surprising that many of the most widely-used, effective treatments for conduct problems are of a cognitive-behavioral tradition that emphasizes the role of social learning. This paper reviews four such types of treatment, including out-of-home placements, home-based treatment, and school-based treatment. Pharmacotherapy, the one non-behavioral treatment that is becoming more widely recognized, is also reviewed.
From the Paper:
"The intensive treatment offered by the TFM has documented efficacy in delinquency rates and participant satisfaction. Kirigin & Wolf (1994) found that APP adolescents had fewer recorded offenses than adolescents in other group home environments. Furthermore, APP adolescents and staff reported higher levels of satisfaction with the residential care when compared with adolescents and staff from other group homes. Unfortunately, the program has few long-term effects. As little as one year after treatment, there was no difference in delinquency rates of APP teens and those who had spent time in other group homes."
