From the Paper:
"While no one may ever know the extent to which early humans experienced pathos associated with death, it is evident that dying was more than a simple biological function to these creatures. However, while humankind's past regarding dealing with death may remain a mystery, much ethnographic research has been done on present day cultures surrounding the phenomenon of death. Anthropology provides various strategies to classify a certain culture's theories about death, the entire veil of order and meaning that societies construct against the chaos posed by death. "
