This paper examines the impact that the social work of General Motors and its subsidiary, General Motors Acceptance Corporation, has had upon Mexican workers, families and communities. It looks at how General Motors' contributions to Mexico encompass a wide spectrum of topics, from improved benefits for Mexican laborers to improved business ethics to improved funding for education to, not least of all, improved environmental standards.

"Large multinationals are frequently the object of scorn, not plaudits, for their work in various communities around the world. That being said, General Motors and the General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) have both made contributions to Mexican society that cannot be passed over lightly. In particular, the General Motors Acceptance Corporation works closely with Habitat for Humanity and its social work has benefited communities, families and Mexico more generally. The following paper will outline the contributions of the aforementioned multinationals to Mexican society as a result of this social work and argue that critics of General Motors are frequently misled when they make assumptions about GM's "deleterious" impact upon societies beyond America's borders. "
