Paper Summary:
This paper discusses the connection between how we think and the state of our mental and physical health. The paper discusses the history and development of the concept of self-talk and how it is gaining acceptance with modern psychology. The paper also discusses some of the uses of positive self-talk and how it can influence our experiences.
From the Paper:
"Self-talk has found a fruitful home in sports. From professional golf to Olympic swimmers, mental preparation has become as important as physical training. At the highest levels of sport where every competitor is an outstanding athlete, only the difference in mental preparation will separate the winner from the rest of the field. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is one way in which athletes can prepare themselves for competition. It's application of mindfulness-based cognitive behavior therapy strategies has been highly successful in preparing athletes for difficult competitions. Both men and women have used Neuro-Linguistic Programming with great success."
