An explanation of the fifth amendment law of the American constitution.
5,003 words (approx. 20 pages) | 10 sources | MLA | 2002 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper introduces the fifth Amendment, describing its primary components and explaining its meaning and legal consequences. The writer provides a review of the law, including its history and modern day interpretations. The paper makes reference to a specific 5th Amendment case involving the ten commandments, which was selected and discussed as to its impact on contemporary American society.

From the Paper:

"The Fifth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is perhaps best known for its protections against compulsory self-incrimination, but it provides a wider range of rights and guarantees as well. The Fifth Amendment is, of course, part of a broader range of civil liberties and freedoms contained in the first ten amendments, or what has become known as the Bill of Rights. These first ten amendments were adopted to overcome the concern that the Constitution granted power to a central government at the expense of the individual citizen (Corley et al. 250). Although the framers of the Constitution did not necessarily intend to the provisions of the Fifth Amendment to evolve as they did, today they provide a wide range or protections for the individual citizen and businesses in America."
